Next Sunday, 11th April, Polesworth Parish Council are inviting children and families to attend Hall Court to sew some wildflower seeds and pick some litter. We are hoping that we will also have some bug hunting equipment for youngsters to use and learn about the insects that live in the undergrowth around Hall Court, and will benefit from the addition of some wildflower beds.
Children will be given some seeds to plant and water in the prepared beds around Hall Court, and will then be able to watch them grow over the coming days and weeks. Wildflowers are important habitat as they provide pollinators and insects with food from leaves, pollen, nectar, shelter and also places to breed. Wildflowers are also beneficial during the winter, as wildflower seeds become an important food source for birds and small mammals.
It will also be the launch of the ‘Polesworth Pickers’ community group and have litter picking equipment available for families to go off and pick some litter around Polesworth. The aim of the event is to bring the community together and have fun, whilst also cleaning up and improving our local environment, and providing youngsters the opportunity to explore and learn about the natural world.
People’s safety will be very important at the event, so we ask that no groups lager than six attend at any one time and that the following guidance is followed:
The event will be at Hall Court, Bridge St, Polesworth, Nr. Tamworth B78 1DT and will run between 10:00 and 14:00.
